6 years ago, Jake had a vision to bring therapeutic diversion through fishing to kids fighting cancer after a friend, Ryan Baker, spent the last 18 months of his childhood in hospitals and at home battling Ewing Sarcoma. At that time, no one could predict that we would have requests from all across the country for Jake’s Dry Fishing Kit and Fishing is Relief events.
With Jake heading to college in the fall, our programs need someone(s) like Jake to fill his shoes. The “Next Jake” or Ambassadors for Angling for Relief, application is open to current High School sophomores and juniors.
Ambassadors will need to have the following qualities:
Some Requirements/Responsibilities include:
Through the programs we have developed, children will be able to learn to fish from their home/hospital using our “Dry Fishing Kit” and educational materials. Our YouTube channel gives them demonstrations and activities to learn more about fishing. We will then offer them the opportunity to put their skills to the test on the water once they are cleared by their medical team/parents and join us at our #FishingIsRelief events. At these events, the entire family is welcome to join in the fun and find some fishing relief, too.
The commitment is big, yet the rewards you will encounter by helping kids to simply embrace the joy of being kids, even amid challenging circumstances will be even bigger!
The reality is that you need service hours, and every hour spent with/for Angling for Relief is a service hour.
We are also thrilled to be able to offer a small scholarship as you head off to college.
Another advantage is the potential opportunities that may open up to you in the fishing or medical industry.
Please reach out at 813.784.5711 or email@example.com with questions. We look forward to reading your application!
Jake’s vision continues to flourish through Angling for Relief. As we pay homage to the memory of Ryan Baker and the kindness he shared, we extend a hand to all those who seek solace in the embrace of angling. Together, we cast hope and reel in moments of respite, camaraderie, and unwavering support.
Join us in our mission to turn fishing lines into lifelines.
